#IWD2017 – BBC Presenter, Producer and Project Manager Bethan Elfyn

Thursday March 2nd, 2017

Bethan Elfyn has been broadcasting across BBC radio and TV since the late 1990s – first of all with local station BBC Radio Cymru, and moving to front the new shows for the Nations on BBC Radio One in 1999. The decade was spent firmly ensconced in the UK’s music scene, hosting main stages at festivals across the land from Reading to Green Man and regularly curating and DJing band nights in Cardiff and London.

She is a also a regular presenter on BBC Radio Wales every Saturday night from 7 PM – 10 PM – a show which has seen the cream of the Welsh music crop come in to co-host, from Sir Tom Jones, to James Dean Bradfield, to Cerys Matthews and many more.

As well as the radio work, Bethan is a full time producer, and project manager with the Horizons Project; a scheme from BBC Wales and Arts Council of Wales, to nuture new Welsh talent. The scheme aims to find new platforms for Welsh music through radio, festivals, and international work.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

“Its about sisterhood, and raising each other on this one day, its about respect and highlighting some of the hard working ladies around the world in whatever field – surprisingly, we don’t always get that recognition!

Tell us about a woman who inspires you?

“I’m going to pick a wonderful Radio inspiration – Annie Nightingale – writer, broadcaster, storyteller, DJ – she’s an incredible woman, and doesn’t get the credit she deserves for the years she’s grafted the late nights on Radio One. From the Beatles to Benga, she’s still relevant, cutting edge, and has an amazing radio style – I wish we could hear her during the day though!”

Bethan will be hosting events at our Cardiff and Swansea events on 12th March
