Mentoring

We want more Black, Asian and ethnic minority people, women, LGBTQ+ people and disabled people in decision making positions in Wales.

The award-winning Equal Power Equal Voice (EPEV) mentoring programme is a partnership between Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales, Stonewall Cymru, Disability Wales, and Ethnic Minorities & Youth Support Team (EYST) Wales. It is a mentoring programme aiming to increase diversity of representation in public and political life in Wales, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Welsh Government. Visit the project website here to find out more.

The cross-equalities EPEV programme builds on WEN’s previous mentoring scheme, which ran from 2018 – 2020. Following participation on the scheme, mentees have become councillors and MPs, been appointed to public boards, and become school governors and charity trustees. EPEV is now building upon this experience and success, working collaboratively with our fellow equalities organisations to diversify public and political life.

The Equal Power Equal Voice programme has given me a deeper understanding of public and political life as well as supporting me on my journey towards running for local councillor. The project empowers me to use my voice and platform to campaign for change in Wales, specifically for women.

Nothing is too much of an ask for the WEN Wales team and they’re always willing to go above and beyond to make sure women like me have the best possible chances of success.
